Why this is easy to misread
OAC 3701:1-68-02(D) requires refresher training at intervals not exceeding twelve months for operators of radiographic systems.
But paragraph (H) specifically states that operators of analytical, cabinet, hand-held, and miniature radioscopic systems are exempt from paragraphs (C), (D), and (E).
What cabinet operators must know
Paragraph (H) instead requires training and demonstrated competence in cabinet-specific subjects, including:
- safe equipment operating procedures;
- measures to minimize radiation exposure;
- the significance of warning devices, safety devices, and interlocks;
- radiation hazards, biological effects, and radiation risks;
- reporting actual or suspected accidental exposure and other radiation-safety concerns;
- performing surveys where applicable.
Facility takeaway
Maintain documented evidence that cabinet operators received appropriate training and demonstrated competence in the required topics.
Qualification: This does not mean retraining can never be required. Another applicable requirement, facility policy, manufacturer program, or specific regulatory condition may create additional training obligations.
